About the Henry Moore Institute

The Institute runs a varied programme of free exhibitions and events, and provides an invaluable sculpture resource for researchers, students and artists.

History of the Institute
The Institute is a part of The Henry Moore Foundation, set up by the sculptor Henry Moore (1898-1986) in 1977 to encourage appreciation of the visual arts, especially sculpture.

The Institute hosts a varied programme of historical, modern and contemporary sculpture exhibitions.

A State of Matter: Modern and Contemporary Glass Sculpture

To mark the United Nations International Year of Glass 2022, the Henry Moore Institute presented a major exhibition exploring glass as a material for sculpture.

Julia Crabtree and William Evans: Slip

Julia Crabtree and William Evans’ work incorporates a breadth of materials and modes of making from casting and glass-blowing to video-making and printing. For each new body of work they initiate a sequence of contained sculptural experiments.

Portable Sculpture

Bringing together works from 1934 to the present day, this exhibition looked at sculptures that have been deliberately designed to fold up, or pack down, or that have been made while on the move.
Architectural design
The design of the exterior of the Institute, facing Victoria Gardens on the Headrow, is tied to the history of this area of Leeds.
